I'm very sad to feel that I have to make ANY kind of political comment, but at the moment, I feel that it is absolutely necessary. Over the many years that I have known them, I have come to realise that the People of Tibet are very special, and I feel proud and priveleged to have many Tibetan people as friends. They are gentle and kind, and even though their country, (since Tibet IS a Sovereign Nation with its own culture and traditions,) is currently under the brutal and tyrannical occupation of the Chinese army, the Tibetan people still espouse and practise the beliefs and life of "ahimsa" or non-violence.
Tibetan people want the Chinese Occupation Forces to leave Tibet, but they refuse absolutely to use violence to achieve that goal. Until China invaded Tibet, the Tibetan people had had peace for over a millennium. There is no other nation on Earth that can claim that. The current announcements by China that the people of Tibet are engaged in terrorism, led by His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama, are such a transparent and ridiculous lies that I'm surprised that they think it will be believed by anyone.
Here however are some REAL FACTS: Since the Chinese invasion, China have MURDERED more than 1.2 million Tibetans, many of them monks. Many hundreds of thousands of Tibetan women have been raped by Chinese soldiers. Monasteries have been destroyed, books and Buddhist iconography have been burned. Tibetan people are required to speak Chinese, even though they have a sophisticated and beautiful language of their own. China are re-writing history saying that Tibet has always been a part of China. This is untrue, in fact China used to take spiritual instruction from the High Lama of Tibet, as did Mongolia ! (Ghenghis Khan, theChief of the Mongol Empire gave the High Lama of Tibet the honourable title "Dalai Lama" meaning "Ocean of Limitles Peace ! "
His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama is a winner of the Nobel Peace prize, and his message is and always has been one of Peace, both personal and on a social level. He is very open about the fact that he is a Disciple of Mahatma Ghandi-ji, the man who led India to victory over the British Empire by using non-violent Civil Disobedience . This genocide has not been protested by the west ( USA, Britain etc) because we fear the Chinese. They have the world's biggest air-force and the world's biggest army, and will also soon be the world's richest nation.

If you want to learn more about the wonderful Tibetan people, watch the Martin Scorsese film "KUNDUN" (which means "presence") about the Dalai Lama, and check the internet for some of the many books on all things Tibetan.
